Situated on two adjacent residential lots, this project explores the exceptional potential of the entry canopies often found on triple-decker homes in the Cambridge area. The resulting intervention envisions the rear area of the site as a civic gathering space that is protected from the street, yet accessible by means of a habitable canopy structure. This covered threshold guides users to a multipurpose yard that doubles as workshop space for artists-in-residence living on site. Its openness and transparency signals the permeability of the artists’ residency, laying the groundwork for a reimagined relationship between the institution and its surrounding community.
